Nationally Renowned Youth Apologetics Leader Serving as 2019 National Day of Prayer Student Movement Director; McFarland Also Planning ‘Unashamed’ Youth Camp This Summer, in Partnership with TNG Sponsor Liberty University

GREENSBORO, N.C.—In just a few days, religion and culture expert, author and radio host Dr. Alex McFarland and Truth for a New Generation Ministries will bear witness to tens of thousands of students coming together for the National Day of Prayer (NDP).

For the May 2 National Day of Prayer event, McFarland is serving as the National Student Movement Director. For many months, McFarland and his team have worked toward the vision of inspiring student-led prayer in all 50 states, and with the goal of mobilizing 50,000 students and 1,000-plus individual student groups nationwide.

“Over nearly 30 years in ministry, I have had the privilege of speaking with hundreds of thousands of young people,” he said. “I pray the Lord enables me to meet youth right where they are, encouraging them to get to know Jesus, strengthen their relationship with Him and talk to their friends about their faith. The key is building genuine, caring relationships with middle schoolers, high schoolers, college students and millennials, as I talk with them about the importance of staying close to Christ, witnessing to their friends and family, and praying.

“What I discover is that our young people are facing a multitude of very serious issues, and they are being pulled in every direction from many agendas that are fighting for their devotion, their time and their souls,” he added. “This is one of the most difficult times in history to grow up in America; the challenges are great for our young people, and they are walking away from God in droves. There is only one answer—Jesus—and there is one way to become closer to Him—prayer—not only on the National Day of Prayer, but every day.”

For the National Day of Prayer, Truth for a New Generation is partnering with several national groups:

  • See You at the Pole, an annual student prayer gathering on the fourth Wednesday of September at school flagpoles
  • First Priority of America, which connects churches and campuses, and plans to involve 25,000 students in NDP
  • Claim Your Campus, which empowers students to transform the nation through prayer and will promote NDP to more than 1,000 schools in 40 states
  • Trail Life USA, which creates environments for boys to thrive and will highlight NDP to 26,000 troop members nationwide and 750 churches
  • Focus on the Family’s Bring Your Bible to School Day initiative, which occurs annually on the first Thursday in October nationwide

This week, through communications and social media, these organizations will encourage students to commit to pray at their schools or campuses and for their country as part of the National Day of Prayer.

The online hub for the National Day of Prayer student movement under McFarland’s leadership is found at NDPStudents.com, where partner organizations are listed under the FAQ section. On Thursday, students can also share National Day of Prayer stories at the social media hashtags #love1another, which is the 2019 National Day of Prayer theme taken from John 13:34, or #ndpstudents at the Facebook and Instagram pages for the National Day of Prayer student movement.

For two decades, Truth for a New Generation Ministries, sponsored by Liberty University, has hosted national and regional conferences that aim to help students, parents, youth pastors and community members lift up this young generation, pray for them and empower them to stand strong in their faith.

This summer, another exciting aspect of Truth for a New Generation will be the “Unashamed” Youth Camp, set for July 29 through Aug. 2 at Camp Cale in Hertford, North Carolina. The camp for ninth- through 12th-graders will allow high-schoolers to invest five days to “Go Deeper with God.”

Participants will attend apologetics and Christian worldview sessions; enjoy excellent camp facilities and activities, such as a ropes course, kayaking and more; worship through music; connect through small group mentoring; and make lifelong memories.

Besides McFarland, daily worship and teaching will be led by Meeke Addison, American Family Radio host of “Urban Family Talk” and a pro-family activist; Andy Lawrenson, a student and ministry teams pastor; and Daniel Ritchie, speaker and author of “My Affliction for His Glory.” For more information or to register for the Youth Apologetics Camp, click here.
