40 Days of Prayer for Event Beginning Now Through Mid-September, Praying That God Will Bring ‘Truth for a New Generation

GREENSBORO, N.C.—One of the first books Dr. Alex McFarland read when he was embarking on his future life as a Christian apologist was “More Than a Carpenter” by Josh McDowell, which helped McFarland fall in love with apologetics. Now, decades later, McFarland and McDowell are working toward the same goal—to ensure that more Christians can ably and readily defend their faith, which is ever more crucial in today’s culture.

Today, McDowell and McFarland, a religion and culture expert, national radio host and author of 18 books with a new one to be released in March 2019, are teaming up again, this time for McFarland’s regional Truth for a New Generation (TNG) conference in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on Sept. 14-15. More than 1,000 gathered this past March in Greensboro, North Carolina, for the national TNG event titled “Save a Nation.” The regional events will have the same theme and will encourage Christians to pray for their country and activate to bring revival to the land.

“There is perhaps no one who has had more influence in the field of apologetics than Josh McDowell,” said McFarland. “I am an apologist today due to the impact the work of Josh McDowell had on my life. A new believer at age 21, my college friends were firing objections at me. Just three days into my Christian walk, I bought Josh McDowell’s books and began to read them over and over—footnotes and all! His books became my tutor, and my skeptical friends began to be won to Christ. Ultimately, the direction of my future was set—I would become an apologist for Christianity. I know firsthand the power of Josh’s research and personal example, and I’m thrilled that attendees to our Truth for a New Generation conference next month in Tennessee will be able to personally experience his wisdom and insight.”

Josh McDowell has been at the forefront of cultural trends and groundbreaking ministry for more than 50 years. His ministry serves and equips the body of Christ in raising generations of purpose-driven Christians who know what they believe, why it is true and how to live it out. He has his finger on the pulse of the most pressing issues facing Christians, and recently has written about or conducted research on topics such as pornography, the world of Generation Z and how fathers impact families.

A trailblazer for truth and relationships, McDowell shares the essentials of the Christian faith in everyday language so that youth, families, churches, leaders and individuals of all ages are prepared for the life of faith and the work of the ministry. Since 1961, McDowell has delivered more than 27,000 talks to over 25 million people in 125 countries. He has written or co-authored 148 books, including “More Than a Carpenter” (27 million copies have been distributed) and “New Evidence That Demands a Verdict,” recognized by World Magazine as one of the top 40 books of the 20th century and one of the 13 most influential books of the last 50 years on Christian thought.

For the Murfreesboro event next month featuring McDowell and McFarland, the TNG team is embarking on a 40 Days of Prayer initiative by asking individual Christians and entire churches to pray that God will help bring truth to a new generation.

The prayer event began yesterday, Aug. 5, and will continue until the day before the Tennessee TNG conference, Sept. 13. Those joining the 40-day prayer commitment are being asked to pray for:

  • The speakers and attendees at the Truth for a New Generation conference
  • God’s Spirit to move in a powerful way
  • Spiritual awakening in America

Also joining McFarland and McDowell in Tennessee will be writer and author Michael Brown, faith investigator and author J. Warner Wallace, “Counter Culture Mom” Tina Marie Griffin, former jihadi Kamal Saleem and American Family Radio’s Meeke Addison, among others.

The early bird rate of $34.95 for the Tennessee event ends Aug. 19 and includes general admission to the conference and exhibits. A VIP lunch option Saturday is also available, which includes a private luncheon with key speakers who will give a “Religion & Culture Briefing” plus one complimentary book. Student, group, Gold Circle and VIP package rates are also available. Tickets also include a discount for a Friday night Christian hip-hop concert.
