‘Evangelicals for Harris’ abuses the memory of Billy Graham in tactless smear campaign against Trump
‘This blatant abuse of Graham’s memory is an affront to everything he stood for, and these so-called evangelicals should be ashamed of their behavior,’ said Dr. Alex McFarland
GREENSBORO, N.C. — As the country prepares for the upcoming 2024 presidential election, tensions are rising within the evangelical church. While many believe the Republican party to be the best representative of the Christian community, some are committed to Democratic candidate Kamala Harris despite her seemingly unbiblical viewpoints. “Evangelicals for Harris,” a political conglomeration aiming to promote Harris’ candidacy among the evangelical community, recently released an advertisement demonizing Republican candidate Donald Trump using an archival clip of the late Reverend Billy Graham giving a sermon on 2 Timothy. The ad twists Reverend Graham’s analysis of biblical texts and takes some of Trump’s more controversial comments out of context.
This misappropriation of Scripture — at the expense of the honorable Reverend Billy Graham — reveals the depths of depravity political activists will go to in order to sway the undecided voters, according to youth, culture and religion expert Dr. Alex McFarland.
“It is harrowing to consider how quickly division spreads within the body of Christ,” said McFarland. “Just a few years before his death, the late Billy Graham actually endorsed Donald Trump for president, but now this organization is defiling his messages to tear down the Trump campaign. This blatant abuse of Graham’s memory is an affront to everything he stood for, and these so-called evangelicals should be ashamed of their behavior. Hopefully, American Christians are able to look past the propaganda and vote based on their own beliefs.”
In order to combat these insidious agendas, Alex McFarland and Alex McFarland Ministries released a powerful new voter guide, “Faith & Freedom: Voting With A Biblical Worldview.” This guide is designed to give Christians, especially first-time voters, a resource so that they can bring God into the voting booth and be a positive force for change.
“As Christians, we are called to be salt and light in the world, preserving it from moral decay (Matthew 5:13-16),” commented McFarland. “The ‘Evangelicals for Harris’ are taking that illustrious calling and perverting it to serve an unbiblical agenda. By aligning our votes with God’s Word, we can be a force for righteousness and justice in our communities and nation.”
Alex McFarland currently co-hosts Exploring the Word on the American Family Radio Network, airing daily on nearly 200 radio stations across the U.S. He is also the host of the “Alex McFarland Show,” which airs weekly on NRB TV and YouTube. The “Alex McFarland Show” podcast is available here.
McFarland and theologian Bert Harper, veteran cohosts of the nationally syndicated broadcast Exploring the Word, are proud to announce the launch of their latest book, “100 Bible Questions and Answers for Families.” A follow-up to their previous work, “100 Bible Questions and Answers,” this powerful new book promises to guide through some of the most common challenges and queries people have about God, the Bible, and Christian living.
