‘Swift lift’ threatens to distract impressionable Gen Z voters and negatively impact the upcoming election, says Dr. Alex McFarland
‘Think what you want about her music, but don’t let Taylor Swift make your vote for you’
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Just a few months before Election Day, popstar Taylor Swift posted her official endorsement of presidential candidate Kamala Harris on Instagram. The post quickly became one of her most engaging posts of 2024. Swift’s plea for her impressive 283 million followers to register to vote drove approximately 338,000 visits to the federal voter registration website in only 15 hours. With Swift’s massive influence on the younger generation of voters, many political pundits are growing increasingly concerned that the “Swift lift” will result in voters who would cast their ballot not based on their personal viewpoints but rather based on a celebrity endorsement.
Voting for president purely based on a celebrity’s choice sets a bad precedent for America’s future, says youth, culture and religion expert Dr. Alex McFarland.
“Choosing our next Commander-in-Chief is a massive undertaking that can alter the future of America for better or worse,” said McFarland. “Leaving such a monumental decision to the whims of celebrities seems not only foolhardy, but dangerous. No one can deny the influence pop stars like Swift have on many areas of American culture, but allowing them to dictate the outcome of the presidential election is outrageous. Instead of merely taking the word of a singer, Americans must become informed and cast their votes to reflect their own personal ideologies.”
To help Americans discover how to bring God into the voting booth and be a force for change, Alex McFarland and Alex McFarland Ministries released a powerful new voter guide, “Faith & Freedom: Voting With A Biblical Worldview.” This guide is designed to give Christians, especially first-time voters, a resource so that they can bring God into the voting booth and be a positive force for change.
“Think what you want about her music, but don’t let Taylor Swift make your vote for you,” said McFarland.
Alex McFarland currently co-hosts Exploring the Word on the American Family Radio Network, airing daily on nearly 200 radio stations across the U.S. He is also the host of the “Alex McFarland Show,” which airs weekly on NRB TV and YouTube. The “Alex McFarland Show” podcast is available here.
McFarland and theologian Bert Harper, veteran cohosts of the nationally syndicated broadcast Exploring the Word, are proud to announce the launch of their latest book, “100 Bible Questions and Answers for Families.” A follow-up to their previous work, “100 Bible Questions and Answers,” this powerful new book promises to guide through some of the most common challenges and queries people have about God, the Bible, and Christian living.
