The Bible offers amazing wisdom concerning the assurance of salvation, and hope in Jesus is there for anyone willing to receive it so long as they have breath in them. Some people experience a heart of surrender that leads to life transformation, and that is just what God’s Word leads us to expect! However, some of these folks struggle with whether or not they are truly saved. In this case, whether you were ever saved before isn’t the most important thing. What matters is that right now, today, you can turn to Jesus Christ and be certain you will be with Him in heaven, just as the thief on the cross was. Our Lord promised they would be together, and the man did nothing but believe in who Jesus was and what He could do as He accomplished salvation in front of the man.
Whether the enemy is trying to make you doubt your salvation or you are feeling God’s convicting Spirit, consider and pray about the following Scriptures, reading surrounding verses for context:
- Romans 8:16 – “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God…”
- 2 Corinthians 5:17 – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
- Romans 5:5 – “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
- 1 John 4:20 – “If someone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?”
- 1 John 2:19: “They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.”
- 2 Corinthians 13:5 – “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.”
- John 3:18 (right after John 3:16 most of us know) – “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
- John 6:37 – ” All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.”
The assurance of salvation and hope in Jesus Christ is a profound promise available to all who seek it. The Bible provides clear guidance and encouragement for those who may struggle with doubts about their salvation. Reflecting on the Scriptures and seeking the Holy Spirit’s guidance can help you overcome these doubts. Remember, the most important thing is to trust in Jesus today and rest in the assurance that His promise of eternal life is steadfast and true. May these truths bring you comfort and confidence in your walk with Christ.
