A report on the recent “Truth For A New Generation” apologetics event, Rockfish Church (very close to Fayetteville, NC / Fort Bragg)

The weekend of May 3-5, 2019, is one that our staff at TNG will not soon forget!

I think that the people of Eastern, NC will remember it for a while, too. Over the course of this first-weekend-of-May, we had the great privilege of seeing 1,600 people learn apologetics and Christian truth from Josh McDowell and Mark Mittelberg. Also, I taught three sessions, moderated a couple of Q & A panels, and enjoyed the thrill of talking with enthusiastic TNG attendees (some of whom had driven a long way to get to the seminar!).

Let me say a heartfelt “Thank You” to the awesome staff of Rockfish Church. They truly were as gracious and accommodating as anyone could possibly ask— their staff and volunteers also worked very hard with Carla and our team so this seminar would, “pop and sizzle!” Having spoken at Rockfish Church in recent years, last weekend’s TNG event reminded me why leadership magazines like Outreach write articles praising this innovative congregation.

The Board and staff of “Truth For A New Generation” and I all join together in expressing sincere appreciation to founding pastor Dan Stanley, current lead pastor Tony McVickers, Student Ministry director Dustin Whittington, and all the great people of Rockfish! We are also thankful for many of the surrounding churches (like Raeford’s Hillcrest Baptist) that supported the seminar.

“You make learning the Bible fun”

A most cherished possession I carried home from this particular “TNG” event is a crayon picture— drawn for me by a second-grader. “Natalia” drew a picture of the stage, the speakers, the TNG logo- and she wrote, “Thank you, Mr. McFarland…” On the other side Natalia wrote, “You make learning the Bible fun.”

Think about how the Lord is using TNG— apologetics legend Josh McDowell, Mark Mittelberg (mentor of Lee Strobel), and I were all presenting deep Biblical truths as adults feverishly took notes. But teens were there, too, listening intently, along with precious younger kids like 2nd grader Natalia, who had a good time, “learning the Bible.”

We look forward to the day that “Truth For A New Generation” comes to your town! Even more so, we anticipate the day that America experiences a great move of the Holy Spirit, resulting in millions finding new life in Jesus! Please pray, promote, and plan to attend upcoming TNG events, like the fantastic one last weekend in Fayetteville. All praise to God!
