Religion and culture expert, national radio host and author Dr. Alex McFarland is holding up the words of a wise African bishop, who asserted that Africans don’t need to be told by progressives to “grow up.”

Dr. Jerry P. Kulah, a Methodist African delegate from Liberia, gave a “convictional and pointed” address against proposed reforms that would have redefined marriage to include same-sex unions and allowed for LGBT clergy. The United Methodist Church narrowly voted down the measure 53 percent to 47 percent.

“…we know of no compelling arguments for forsaking our church’s understanding of Scripture and the teachings of the church universal,” Kulah told his fellow delegates, “…we Africans are not children in need of western enlightenment when it comes to the church’s sexual ethics. We do not need to hear a progressive U.S. bishop lecture us about our need to ‘grow up.’ Let me assure you, we Africans, whether we have liked it or not, have had to engage in this debate for many years now. We stand with the global church, not a culturally liberal, church elite, in the U.S.”

Interview Alex McFarland on the bishop’s bold and biblical stance that likely had a major influence over the Methodist vote, and the significance of this week’s news.

McFarland, the author of 18 books with another on the way, is the creator of the successful Truth for a New Generation national and regional apologetics conferences, which aim to help students, parents, youth pastors and community members lift up this young generation, pray for them and empower them to stand strong in their faith. He was also recently named the National Student Movement Director for the National Day of Prayer.
