Can You Trust the New Testament? Absolutely.

Is the New Testament historically accurate? Can we trust what the Bible says—not only about history, but most importantly, about the Lord Jesus Christ?

I believe the answer is a resounding yes.

Hi, Alex McFarland here. I want to share a powerful quote from one of the most respected Christian apologists of our time, Dr. John Warwick Montgomery. He said:

“To be skeptical of the text of the New Testament books is to allow all of classical antiquity to slip into obscurity, for no documents of the ancient period are as well attested as the New Testament.”

Let that sink in. If we dismiss the New Testament, we must also dismiss the writings of Homer, Plato, Caesar, and every other figure from antiquity—because none of their works are supported by the sheer volume and quality of manuscript evidence that backs the New Testament.

Dr. Montgomery is no lightweight. He holds ten earned degrees, including multiple doctorates and a law degree. He even earned a master’s in library science just to deepen his research capabilities. He’s written 40 books in five languages, and he’s a committed follower of Jesus Christ. His scholarship is unimpeachable, and his conclusion is clear: the New Testament stands alone in its historical reliability.

Other scholars echo this truth. The late Dr. Norman Geisler, a dear friend and mentor of mine, often emphasized the overwhelming manuscript evidence for the Bible. I had the privilege of studying under him in graduate school and working alongside him in seminary. His legacy continues to affirm the trustworthiness of Scripture.

If you ever get the chance, I encourage you to visit the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. There you’ll see some of the oldest surviving fragments of Scripture. Scholars examine these fragments and compare them with thousands of other manuscripts to confirm the accuracy of the biblical text. This process is called manuscript attestation, and it’s one of the strongest evidences we have for the reliability of the New Testament.

So yes—if you believe that any ancient document can be trusted, then you must acknowledge that the New Testament is the most authenticated of them all.

And what does this well-attested book tell us?

It tells us that you can be born again through Jesus Christ. That He gave His life, rose from the dead, and offers forgiveness and new life to all who turn to Him. The Bible promises that the Holy Spirit will indwell believers, and that we can live with hope, purpose, and eternal assurance.

These are not just spiritual truths—they are historical realities, grounded in the most reliable documents of the ancient world.

Because God is truth, and His Word can be trusted.
