New Theology Survey Finds Over Half of Millennials Think Abortion Is a Sin; Pro-Life Talk Will Proceed, Despite Student Protest and University Pushback

GREENSBORO, N.C.—More millennials now say that abortion is a sin, which will help advance the pro-life movement and save the lives of unborn babies for generations to come, says religion and culture expert, national radio host and author Dr. Alex McFarland.

McFarland sees this fact—and the nation’s declining abortion rate—as a welcome sign. Tomorrow, he will speak on the University of Louisville campus about when life truly begins.

McFarland has reported that students opposed to the talk have been protesting, and university administration has told the sponsoring group, the campus chapter of Students for Life of America, that it must pay for security to address these concerns. The group is working with Alliance Defending Freedom to communicate the students’ freedom of speech rights.

Ligonier Ministries and LifeWay Research teamed up for the 2018 State of Theology survey, which measures the theological temperature of the United States to help Christians better understand today’s culture and equip the church with better insights for discipleship.

The survey found that a 52 percent majority of American adults now consider abortion a sin, up from 49 percent two years ago. Even more encouraging is that pro-life support is strongest among the 18- to 34-year-old age group, which expressed 57 percent support for the idea that abortion is a sin—up from 50 percent two years ago.

“The defense of life is a defense of our Constitution, and those who are afraid to stand for life and for absolute morality are putting our nation at risk,” McFarland said. “If individuals want to reject morality, they have the freedom to do so, but let’s not think for a moment that the rejection of natural law and morality as part of our national fabric will not impact the life and liberty we hold so dear.”
