Dr. Alex McFarland recalls the life and legacy of John MacArthur

GREENSBORO, N.C. On July 14, John MacArthur, pastor, prominent theologian and author, went home to his Savior after a bout with pneumonia at the age of 86. His more than 50 years of dedication to Grace Community Church and commitment to sharing God’s Word will forever leave a lasting impact on the Christian community.

“John MacArthur has been/was THE public face of faithful, courageous, exegetical proclamation of scripture for as long as I’ve been a Christian,” said youth, culture and religion expert Dr. Alex McFarland. “Every ordained minister in America is indebted to this man’s scholarship and decades-long example; MacArthur was a dependable role model of what it means to be a shepherd and preacher.

“For those like me who agreed with America’s founders that the government has no right to reach into the affairs of the church, I was especially appreciative of John MacArthur’s courage in the face of government persecution of Christianity during COVID.

“MacArthur obeyed God rather than man and kept Grace Community Church open during the unconstitutional quarantines, with the pure Word of God being proclaimed. He endured criticism, threats and legal persecution — all in the quest to remain faithful to Christ.

“May John MacArthur’s life inspire countless others to serve and stand faithfully. May God bless the sacred memory.”
