Many Christians want to read the Bible more consistently, but life gets busy. Work, family, and screens compete for attention. The good news is that building a steady habit of reading God’s Word is possible with simple, faithful steps.
First, remember why it matters. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” The Bible guides our decisions and shapes our thinking. Joshua 1:8 teaches that we should meditate on God’s Word day and night so we can live wisely. When we understand the purpose, we are more motivated to stay committed.
Second, choose a specific time each day. Many people read in the morning before distractions begin. Others read at night before bed. The key is consistency. Even ten or fifteen minutes a day can make a difference. Setting an alarm or reminder can help until the habit feels natural.
Third, start with a simple plan. You might read one chapter of the Gospel of John, a Psalm each day, or follow a Bible reading plan. Having a clear direction keeps you from feeling overwhelmed. It is better to read a small amount regularly than to read a large amount only occasionally.
Fourth, remove distractions. Put your phone on silent. Find a quiet place. Treat this time as important. Just as you would not ignore a close friend speaking to you, do not treat Bible reading as unimportant.
Fifth, pray before you read. Ask God to help you understand and apply what you learn. James 1:5 promises that God gives wisdom to those who ask. Reading is not only about information. It is about transformation.
Finally, give yourself grace. If you miss a day, don’t quit. Start again the next day. Consistency in God’s Word does not happen by accident. It grows through simple, steady choices. When you make Scripture a daily priority, your heart and mind will slowly be shaped by truth.
