In today’s world, it’s not uncommon to hear someone say, “God is not real.” Whether it’s in a classroom, on social media, or around the dinner table, this statement reflects a growing skepticism in our culture. But is it a conclusion based on evidence—or on assumption?
As a Christian apologist, I’ve spent decades engaging with people from all walks of life—believers, seekers, and skeptics alike. And I’ve found that behind the bold claim “God is not real” often lies a deeper question: “Why should I believe in God at all?”
Let’s explore three reasons why belief in God is not only reasonable—it’s essential.
1. The Universe Had a Beginning—So What Caused It?
Science confirms that the universe had a beginning. The Big Bang theory, widely accepted among cosmologists, points to a moment when time, space, and matter came into existence. But what caused that beginning?
Everything that begins to exist has a cause. The universe began to exist. Therefore, the universe must have a cause. That cause, by definition, must be outside of time, space, and matter—eternal, powerful, and intelligent. That sounds a lot like God.
2. Objective Morality Points to a Moral Lawgiver
We all recognize that some things are truly right or wrong. Torturing children for fun is wrong. Helping the poor is good. But where do these moral truths come from?
If God does not exist, then morality is just a matter of opinion—no different than preferring chocolate over vanilla. But deep down, we know that morality is more than preference. It’s rooted in something objective, something higher. That “something” is actually *someone*—a moral lawgiver who defines right and wrong.
3. Lives Are Transformed by the Reality of God
Beyond philosophical arguments, there’s the undeniable power of personal transformation. Millions of people across centuries and cultures testify to the life-changing reality of Jesus Christ. Addicts set free. Broken families restored. Hopeless hearts filled with peace. These aren’t just emotional experiences—they’re evidence of a living God who enters human lives and makes all things new.
A Final Thought
If you’re skeptical about God’s existence, I invite you to explore—not just with your mind, but with your heart. Ask the hard questions. Seek the truth. And be open to the possibility that the God you’ve dismissed might be more real than you ever imagined.
Because if God is real—and He is—then knowing Him is the most important truth you’ll ever discover. Learn how to have a relationship with God by downloading our free ebook, “My Relationship with God,” here.
