Sarcastic TV host says Trump ‘turned’ Christian as if caring about religion was unforgivably negative

Dr. Alex McFarland: ‘I applaud Trump for being a voice for how the Olympic opening ceremony did indeed mock one of the most important and spiritual events in Christianity, the Last Supper’

GREENSBORO, N.C. Tonight host John Oliver took a cheap shot at Donald Trump after the former president’s statements about Kamala Harris’ race and the Olympics drag show performance.

Trump told the National Association of Black Journalists that Kamala Harris had “all of a sudden made a turn” on her Indian heritage and “became a Black person” apparently because of politics.

Oliver tried to flip this observation, saying Trump “turned Christian” for convenience. Oliver ripped Trump for saying the Olympics drag show “was a disgrace… I mean, they can do certain things, I thought it was, uh… terrible.” The ridicule of faith continued, as Oliver said, “to echo something I heard someone say recently: I didn’t know he was a Christian until a number of years ago, when he happened to turn Christian. All of a sudden, he made a turn and became a Christian person.”

“As someone who has spent my life preaching the Gospel and being open about my faith, I hope John Oliver will ‘turn Christian,’” says youth, culture and religion expert Dr. Alex McFarland. “I applaud Trump for being a voice for how the Olympic opening ceremony did indeed mock one of the most important and spiritual events in Christianity, the Last Supper. My prayer for John Oliver is that he would learn the truth.

“For those of us who have ‘turned Christian,’ we need to hold strong to our values and not let public opinion and pressure force us to hide our faith. Now more than ever, we should be called to express our faith, showing others that we are proud to be Christians.”

Alex McFarland currently co-hosts Exploring the Word on the American Family Radio Network, airing daily on nearly 200 radio stations across the U.S. He is also the host of the “Alex McFarland Show,” which airs weekly on NRB TV and YouTube. The “Alex McFarland Show” podcast is available here.
