TV host feels ‘unsafe’ around America flag; Dr. Alex McFarland says consider relocating to China

‘You have no right to subvert the country for the rest of us’

GREENSBORO, N.C. Despite its long history as a beacon for freedom and justice around the world, the American flag is coming under siege within the nation’s borders. “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin recently commented that she often feels “unsafe” in neighborhoods with multiple American flags flying. “There’s a section of this country that has co-opted the American flag, and they equate being an American or an American flag with White supremacy,” Hostin said to the agreement of her co-hosts. Unfortunately, Hostin’s comments echo a concerning trend about the state of American patriotism; a recent survey of Americans indicated that less than half of citizens are “very proud” to be an American.

“The answer is very simple,” said youth, culture and religion expert Dr. Alex McFarland. “If you don’t love the American flag and what it stands for, then leave! Men and women have fought and died for the freedoms our flag guarantees. You have no right to subvert the country for the rest of us. It is shameful, to say the least, to be embarrassed or afraid of the symbol of liberty the world over. Sunny Hostin and all those who are afraid of the American flag are welcome to try living in places like Communist China, where their flag stands for oppression and fear. Instead of focusing on our nation’s dark moments, we should celebrate all that America has done and the hard-won victories that make us the symbol of freedom around the world.”

On August 8, 2026, McFarland is set to speak with conservative author, speaker and host Eric Metaxas on the topic of the birth of “the greatest nation in the world” and what America represents in his acclaimed Conversations that Matter series. In a world overflowing with opinions and half-truths, this series offers participants a chance to explore what they believe, why they believe it, and how those beliefs shape their lives. This series is designed for anyone eager to engage with pressing issues and navigate the complexities of modern thought using solid information and timeless wisdom. Attendees gain a better understanding of how to think critically, pray for guidance and thrive, knowing what they believe and why.
