As social media corrupts today’s young people, Dr. Alex McFarland urges parents to put Christ first

‘Public opinion will come and go, but the truth of the Gospel will always remain steadfast,’ says Dr. Alex McFarland

GREENSBORO, N.C. A recent study has proven what levelheaded critics have been saying for years — social media exposure has created a significant rise in depressive episodes in today’s young people. Researchers found that an increase in social media use predicted a future rise in symptoms of depression in children as young as nine years old. Lack of sleep, online comparison and cyberbullying were directly correlated, with experts urging parents to set strict boundaries surrounding social media use — then enforce them.

Youth, culture and religion expert Dr. Alex McFarland has worked with young people and their families for decades and has come to one simple conclusion: the American family must look beyond social media and find purpose in Christ and His message.

“There is more to life than technology,” commented McFarland. “Today’s youth are growing up in the most technically advanced society the world has ever seen. Unfortunately, this has only created a surge of depression and isolation amongst our young people. As we navigate this maze, it’s up to parents and guardians to point children away from social media and towards the love of the Gospel. Public opinion will come and go, but the truth of the Gospel will always remain steadfast.”

Alex McFarland Ministries, in partnership withReasons For Hope, is proud to offer Equip Retreat Camps for families looking for unapologetic Christian camps to educate and inspire today’s young people. The camps are for middle and high school students who want to immerse themselves in learning about apologetics and biblical worldview from Dr. Alex McFarland and other keynote speakers. Young people will gain the knowledge and understanding to own, share and defend their faith in the Lord, given their newfound confidence to spread the Gospel.

Alex McFarland currently co-hosts Exploring the Word on the American Family Radio Network, airing daily on nearly 200 radio stations across the U.S. He is also the host of the “Alex McFarland Show,” which airs weekly on NRB TV and YouTube. The “Alex McFarland Show” podcast is available here.

McFarland and theologian Bert Harper, veteran cohosts of the nationally syndicated broadcast Exploring the Word, are proud to announce the launch of their latest book, “100 Bible Questions and Answers for Families.” A follow-up to their previous work, “100 Bible Questions and Answers,” this powerful new book promises to guide Christians through some of the most common challenges and queries people have about God, the Bible and Christian living.

Alex McFarland has authored or co-authored more than 20 books, including the newly released “100 Bible Questions & Answers for Families,” “10 Issues that Divide Christians,” “The God You Thought You Knew,” “10 Answers for Skeptics,” “10 Answers for Atheists,” “The 21 Toughest Questions Your Kids Will Ask About Christianity,” published by Focus on the Family, and more. He directs Biblical Worldview and teaches in the School of Practical Government for Charis Bible College, located in Woodland Park, CO.
