September TNG Conference in Tennessee Will Bring Christians Together to Be Refreshed
and Re-Energized in Their Commitment to Sharing the Gospel

GREENSBORO, N.C.—A wise, elderly preacher from Kentucky once told Dr. Alex McFarland that “sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is take a nap.”

While this preacher probably wasn’t suggesting a snooze during a church service, his advice was sound.

McFarland, a religion and culture expert, national radio host and author of 18 books with a new one on the way for early 2019, recently wrote on this topic for The Christian Post, where he said that Christians should be good stewards of their mind, body and soul by taking a rest.

“How often do we consider our theology regarding R&R?” McFarland said. “Acts 3:19 speaks of ‘times of refreshing’ that accompany, and follow, salvation in Christ. This refers primarily to the state of being in right relationship with God, and that ultimately believers will spend eternity in heaven with Him. Hebrews 4:10 also speaks of Christians having entered into ‘God’s rest.’ In our world today, it is very hard for Christians to slow down, unplug, calm one’s mind and—just rest. In reality, resting is a privilege and is, in fact, a discipline much needed in every Christian’s life.”

For more than two decades, religion and culture expert, national radio host and author has ministered in churches in every state in the nation, as well as at Bible studies, conferences, leadership events and dozens of universities—talking about issues just like these.

In September, McFarland is taking his popular and well-attended Truth for a New Generation (TNG) conference “on the road,” with the first regional stop of this event featuring the nation’s best minds in apologetics in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Sept. 14-15.

More than 1,000 gathered this past March in Greensboro, North Carolina, for the national TNG event titled “Save a Nation.” The regional events will have the same theme and will encourage Christians to pray for their country and activate to bring revival to the land.

When Christians gather together and push their distractions aside, like they can and do at TNG events, real spiritual rest, renewal and rejuvenation can happen, McFarland said.

“Some might object to a call for rest, reasoning that because the world at this moment is so dark and sinful, Christians should work all that much harder to spread the Gospel,” he added. “But many Christian leaders, such as Thomas Aquinas, John Wesley and Pat Robertson in the modern era have recognized that getting proper rest is both a stewardship issue and a spiritual discipline.

“So, let’s re-humanize ourselves by heeding God’s call to rest,” McFarland continued. “For you, that may mean taking a fast from technology, being honest about your propensity to busy-ness or work-a-holism, slowing down, meditating on Jesus and quietly reading Scripture. Let’s listen for the still small voice and ask God for rest.”

Joining McFarland in Tennessee will be writer and author Michael Brown, legendary apologist Josh McDowell, faith investigator and author J. Warner Wallace, “Counter Culture Mom” Tina Marie Griffin, former jihadi Kamal Saleem and American Family Radio’s Meeke Addison, among others.

The early bird rate of $34.95 for the Tennessee event ends Aug. 19 and includes Sept. 14-15 general admission to the conference and exhibits. A VIP lunch option Saturday is also available, which includes a private luncheon with key speakers who will give a “Religion & Culture Briefing” plus one complimentary book. Student, group, Gold Circle and VIP package rates are also available. Tickets also include a discount for a Friday night Christian hip-hop concert.
